Nestor Valdez is a French polyglot singer-songwriter and actor who is accompanied by multi-ethnic musicians based in Canada. After having lived in Cape Verde and Portugal Nestor sings theatrical compositions in French, Portuguese and Spanish which are influenced by French chanson, Fado, Coladeira, Tango, Funk and Jazz manouche.
Born in Paris, Nestor soon relocated to the Cape Verde Islands; as a child, he was rocked by the songs of Cesaria Evora. Later, Nestor lived nine adolescent years immersed in Fado and Jazz in Lisbon, Portugal.
Fascinated by theatre, he studied acting and singing in France at the National Academy of Dramatic Arts in Montpellier (ENSAD). While at ENSAD, Nestor also worked with numerous companies as an actor, songwriter, and stage director. He began a 3 year musical collaboration with guitarist and author Matia Levrero, actor Xavier Besson and sax player Armel Courrée.
Currently, Nestor has settled down in Montreal in 2010, where he is working with musicians in the Canadian world and jazz scene. Their first album, in process of creation, co-directed by Maxime Philippe, is the product of the group’s adventurous travels and the quest to introduce audiences to a variety of multicultural musical flavors.
